The upper Mississippi river winds through bluffs and bottomland anchoring a wonderland of good time in northwest Illinois’ jo Daviess County. Beyond Galena’s charms, there’s plenty to see and do. Beloved for its preserved downtown district and President Grant history, Galena boasts the sightseeing and entertainment options of a place twice its size. Galena’s historic Main Street has built a reputation with more than 125 art galleries, antiques stores and eclectic boutiques – all housed in beautifully restored 19th century buildings.  https://www.visitgalena.org/

Ulysses S. Grant Home Tour

On August 18, 1865, Galena celebrated the return of its Civil War hero General Ulysses S. Grant. Following a jubilant procession, a group of Galena citizens presented the General with a handsomely furnished house on Bouthillier Street. It was opened to the public in 1904.
