Morning Program: It’s SO much better with a song!” This morning we’re invited to enjoy the musical talents of Marcy Heim, who served as the first Director of Development for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, hired by Dean Leo Walsh in 1983. During her 23 years with the UW Foundation, giving to the College skyrocketed and provided scholarships, gardens, buildings, professorships, and so much more. There is joy in giving, and Marcy wants everyone to experience it! Behind the CALS scene, Marcy has had her own band, Marcy and The Highlights, for over 35 years. Marcy continues to perform with the band and throughout the world as President of The Artful Asker, a full-service fundraising consultancy. All her presentations are sprinkled with her original fundraising songs. Join a musical tour with Marcy as she shares some of her all-time favorites as well as her original tunes used in her fundraising talks. Laugh, enjoy, and sing along!

Luncheon speaker:  We will be welcomed to the Arboretum by its Director and our luncheon speaker, Karen Oberhauser. After 35 years studying monarch butterfly biology and conservation, she moved to the UW-Madison from Minnesota. Her talk is titled “A butterfly ecologist at the UW-Madison Arboretum.” While the connections between monarchs and the birthplace of the field of restoration ecology may seem tenuous, there are strong links between species conservation and the work of the Arboretum. After highlighting these links, Karen will describe how Arboretum staff, volunteers, and collaborators are building on 86 years of leadership in the fields of restoration ecology, environmental education, and land management. Her talk will address new initiatives and future directions at the Arboretum, focusing on connections with UW researchers and the broader community.
