Research Study - UW Voice Lab

The UW Voice Lab is looking for subjects to help study the effects of long-term straw phonation therapy on voice.

Participation involves four in-person sessions ranging from 10 to 45 minutes each at week 0 (training), week 2, week 4, and week 5. You will also be asked to perform a simple straw phonation task for 20 minutes per day for 6 days per week at home. This study includes completing a novel vocal exercise technique, and reimbursement of $150. Research for this study takes place at home, however the four in-person sessions take place in the Medical Sciences Center. All data collected is low-risk and confidential. To qualify for this study, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be able to say “aaah” for up to 10 seconds
  • Have no voice disorders or lung disorders
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Have a device to record videos
